> Apart from the palaces of the sun and moon, the palaces of the Four Heavenly Kings are forty yojanas in width and length. They have seven layers of surrounding walls, seven layers of railings, seven layers of netting, and seven layers of trees, all adorned and decorated around, constructed from the seven treasures. Even the countless birds singing in harmony there is likewise the same. Among these palaces, some are forty yojanas, some twenty yojanas, and the smallest are five yojanas in width and length. From the city of assemblies, there are jeweled stairways leading to the city of the Worthy One, further stairways to the city of Beautiful Sight, further stairways to the city of Surrounding Beautiful Sight, further stairways to the city of Awe-Inspiring and the city of Heavenly Reverence, further stairways to the Garden of Gaveyantou, further stairways to the Nalini Pond, and further stairways to the palaces of the ministers of the Four Heavenly Kings.

> When Vaiśravaṇa, the Heavenly King, wished to visit the Kapiñjara Park for pleasure, he would think of Dhṛtarāṣṭra, the Heavenly King. Upon this thought, Dhṛtarāṣṭra would realize, "Now the King Vaiśravaṇa is thinking of me," and would immediately adorn himself, mount his jeweled chariot, and, surrounded by countless gandharvas, proceed to stand before Vaiśravaṇa. Then, the King Vaiśravaṇa would think of Virūḍhaka, the Heavenly King, who, understanding that Vaiśravaṇa was thinking of him, would likewise adorn himself, mount his jeweled chariot, and, surrounded by countless kumbhāṇḍas, come to stand before him. Vaiśravaṇa would then think of Virūpākṣa, who, knowing that Vaiśravaṇa was thinking of him, would similarly adorn himself, mount his jeweled chariot, and, with countless nāgas around him, arrive to stand before Vaiśravaṇa. Finally, Vaiśravaṇa would think of the ministers of the Four Heavenly Kings, and they, aware that he was thinking of them, would adorn themselves, mount their jeweled chariots, and, with a great host of devas following, come to stand before Vaiśravaṇa.

> Then Vaiśravaṇa, the great king, adorned himself in jeweled robes and rode his precious chariot, accompanied by countless hundreds and thousands of celestial beings, to the Kāpiñjaya park. A natural breeze arose, blowing the gates open by itself; another natural breeze swept the ground clean; yet another scattered flowers across the earth, covering it up to the knee. The king delighted in the park, spending one day, two days, and up to seven days in enjoyment before returning to his palace. Five great spirits always attended Vaiśravaṇa, guarding him on left and right: first, Pañcāla; second, Daṇḍadhara; third, Hemavata; fourth, Devaśrī; fifth, Suyāma. These five spirits constantly followed and protected him. Such were the merits, virtues, and majestic power of Vaiśravaṇa, the great king.
