> The Chapter on Auspiciousness teaches the art of self-cultivation: to abandon evil and embrace goodness, ultimately attaining abundant and profound blessings.

> The Buddha, supreme above all heavenly beings, The Thus-Come One constantly reveals the truth. A Brahmin ascetic came and asked: "What truly brings good fortune?" The Buddha, moved by compassion, Spoke the essential truth: "To delight in the Right Dharma with faith— This is the greatest good fortune. Not relying on celestial beings, Nor hoping for luck through chance, Nor praying to spirits and gods— This is the greatest good fortune. Choose virtuous friends and a wholesome dwelling, Always act to cultivate merit first, Discipline your body to follow what is true— This is the greatest good fortune. Abandon evil and pursue goodness, Avoid alcohol and know self-restraint, Do not indulge in sensual lust— This is the greatest good fortune. Be learned, uphold precepts, Diligently study the Dharma and Vinaya, Cultivate yourself without contention— This is the greatest good fortune. Dwell at home with filial respect for parents, Manage the household and support your spouse and children, Not engaging in empty pursuits— This is the greatest good fortune. Be neither arrogant nor conceited, Practice contentment and gratitude, Recite and study the scriptures at proper times— This is the greatest good fortune. Patiently endure what you hear, Delight in seeking out monks, Listen and absorb whenever teachings are given— This is the greatest good fortune. Observe fasting and practice pure conduct, Always wish to see the noble and wise, Rely on those with true understanding— This is the greatest good fortune. Trust in moral integrity with faith, Direct your mind rightly without doubt, Aspiring to escape the three evil paths— This is the greatest good fortune. Practice generosity with an impartial mind, Serve those who have attained the path, Also respect heavenly and human beings— This is the greatest good fortune. Always seek to be free from greed, Ignorance, and anger, Able to cultivate the path of truth and insight— This is the greatest good fortune. If you abandon unwholesome pursuits, Diligently apply yourself to the path, Always engage in what is worthy— This is the greatest good fortune. For the sake of all the world, Cultivate a heart of great loving-kindness, Practice benevolence to bring peace to beings— This is the greatest good fortune. If you seek auspicious blessings, Have faith and reverence for the Buddha; If you seek auspicious blessings, Listen to the meaning of the Dharma verses; If you seek auspicious blessings, Make offerings to the Sangha. With pure and complete precepts— This is the greatest good fortune. The wise person living in the world, Always practices auspicious conduct, Attains wisdom and insight on their own— This is the greatest good fortune." Hearing the Buddha's teaching, The Brahmin's heart was filled with great joy. He stepped forward to bow at the Buddha's feet, And took refuge in the Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha.
