Pure Land Rebirth Confession and Vow Rite

Praise of the Dharma (Sixth)(Rise, stand upright, respectfully join your palms. Visualize this very body as being directly before Amitabha and each and every Buddha, reciting verses of praise and vows.)

His form is like Jambu River gold, His face surpasses the full moon's light.

His body's light of wisdom shines, Illuminating realms without limit.

He conquers hosts of Mara's kin, And skillfully transforms gods and men.

Riding the ship of the Eightfold Path, He ferries those so hard to save.

Hearing his name, one never falls back; Therefore, I bow down in homage.

With this we praise the virtue of the Buddha, cultivating the supreme roots of goodness in the Mahayana. This merit is offered up to the gods of the higher realms—the Eight Classes of Dragons and Spirits, the Great Brahma King, the Thirty-Three Heavens; to Yama, the Five Paths, the Six Purification Days, the Eight Kings; to the Plague Sending Spirit and their retinues; to the local spirits and the guardians of the Dharma within the Sangha. It is likewise offered to the kings and emperors of the land and to all its people; to teachers, monks, and parents; to those who create good karma and those who cause evil; to the benefactors who built the monastery and the faithful donors from ten directions; and extensively throughout all beings in the Dharma realm.

May we, relying on this root of goodness, share it equally, cultivating both merit and wisdom—the two ornaments—so that when the time of death comes, we may all be reborn together in the Land of Bliss.
