**The Great Dharani Sutra of the Perfection of Wisdom** Translated by the Tripitaka Master Kumārajīva during the Later Qin Dynasty. Thus have I heard. At one time, the Buddha was on Vulture Peak near Rājagṛha, together with a great assembly of monks and a great assembly of bodhisattvas. At that time, the World-Honored One entered the samādhi of the profound illumination of the Dharma. At that time also, the noble Avalokiteśvara Bodhisattva, while practicing the profound Perfection of Wisdom, clearly beheld the five aggregates as empty, transcending all suffering and distress. "Śāriputra, form is not different from emptiness; emptiness is not different from form. Form itself is emptiness; emptiness itself is form. Sensation, perception, formations, and consciousness are also like this. "Śāriputra, all dharmas are marked by emptiness: they are neither produced nor destroyed, neither defiled nor pure, neither increasing nor decreasing. "Therefore, in emptiness there is no form, no sensation, no perception, no formations, no consciousness; no eyes, no

Kumarajiva's Translation

When Guanyin Bodhisattva practiced the profound wisdom that enables one to cross to the other shore, she clearly saw that the five aggregates are all empty of inherent existence, thereby overcoming all suffering and hardship.

“Shariputra, because form is empty, it has no nature of being troubled or destroyed. Because feeling is empty, it has no nature of being experienced. Because perception is empty, it has no nature of being known. Because mental formations are empty, they have no nature of being created. Because consciousness is empty, it has no nature of being aware. Why is this? Shariputra, form is not separate from emptiness; emptiness is not separate from form. Form itself is emptiness; emptiness itself is form. The same applies to feeling, perception, mental formations, and consciousness.”

Shariputra, here in this emptiness, all phenomena have no defining characteristics: they are neither born nor destroyed, neither stained nor pure, neither increasing nor decreasing. This emptiness is beyond time—not in the past, not in the future, not in the present.

Therefore, in this emptiness, there is no form, no sensation, no perception, no mental formation, no consciousness. No eyes, no ears, no nose, no tongue, no body, no mind. No sights, no sounds, no smells, no tastes, no touch, no thoughts. No realm of sight, nor even any realm of consciousness. No ignorance, and no ending of ignorance. Likewise, no old age and death, nor any ending of old age and death. No suffering, no cause of suffering, no ending of suffering, no path leading beyond suffering. No wisdom, and nothing to attain.

Because there is nothing to attain, the bodhisattva, relying on Prajnaparamita, has no hindrance in the mind. Because there is no hindrance, there is no fear, and they are free from all upside-down views, dream-like illusions, and suffering, ultimately reaching Nirvana. All Buddhas of the past, present, and future, relying on Prajnaparamita, attain Anuttarasamyaksambodhi, the highest and complete enlightenment.

Therefore, know that the Prajñāpāramitā is the great radiant mantra, the supreme radiant mantra, the unequaled radiant mantra. It can remove all suffering, and it is true, not false. Thus, I speak the Prajñāpāramitā mantra.

Then he spoke this mantra:

「竭帝 竭帝 波羅竭帝 波羅僧竭帝 菩提僧莎呵」

Gone, gone, gone beyond, gone altogether beyond—awakening, hail!
