The Recorded Sayings of Chan Master Yuelin Shiguan is a collection of the words and deeds of the Song Dynasty Linji School master Yuelin Shiguan, compiled by nine disciples including Fubao, Fashu, and Qinghui. Active during the Southern Song period, Yuelin Shiguan was an important lineage holder of the Yangqi branch of the Linji School. His recorded sayings include formal hall teachings, dialogues of opportunity, and gāthās, collectively embodying the distinctive Chan approach of the Linji School: directly pointing to the human mind, seeing one's nature, and attaining Buddhahood. This record not only documents the master's methods of guiding students but also contains unique interpretations of gong'an cases. It serves as an important text for studying Chan thought and practice in the Song Dynasty, holding a pivotal position in Buddhist history that bridges past and future, with profound influence on the later development of Chan Buddhism.
