The Guide to the Three Sutras of the Buddha is a commentary on Buddhist scriptures composed by the eminent monk Daopei of the Ming Dynasty. Daopei was a Linji school monk during the late Ming and early Qing periods, proficient in Chan practice and dedicated to the compilation and propagation of Buddhist texts. This work systematically elucidates three important sutras, encompassing their essential meanings, cultivation methods, and Chan teachings, aiming to provide clear guidance for practitioners. Its annotations integrate the mind-approach of Chan with classical doctrines, reflecting the Ming Dynasty Buddhist emphasis on both Chan and scriptural teachings. This work holds significant status in Buddhist history, serving as an important text for the study of Ming Dynasty Chan thought and scriptural interpretation, exerting a profound influence on later Buddhist practice and scholarly research.
