### 釋僧洪

> Master Seng Hong

僧洪者。豫州人也。止於京師瓦官寺。少而修身整潔。後率化有緣。造丈六金像。鎔鑄始畢。未及開模。時晉末銅禁甚嚴。犯者必死。宋武帝時為相國。洪坐罪繫於相府。惟誦觀世音經。一心歸命佛像。夜夢所鑄像來。手摩洪頭。問。怖不。洪言。自念必死。像曰。無憂。見像胸方尺許。銅色燋沸。會當行刑。府參軍監殺。而牛奔車壞。因更尅日。續有令。從彭城來云。未殺僧洪者。可原。遂獲免還。開模。見像胸前。果有燋沸。

> Monk Hong was a native of Yuzhou. He resided at Waguan Temple in the capital. From a young age, he cultivated himself with discipline and purity. Later, he inspired those with kindred spirits to cast a sixteen-foot golden statue. When the casting was completed but before the mold was opened, the Jin dynasty's ban on copper was extremely strict—anyone who violated it faced death. At that time, Song Wudi was the Prime Minister, and Monk Hong was arrested and imprisoned in the Prime Minister's residence. He could only recite the Guanyin Sutra, devoting his mind entirely to the statue. One night, he dreamed that the statue he had cast came to him, gently touching his head and asking, "Are you afraid?" Monk Hong replied, "I know I am doomed to die." The statue said, "Do not worry." Then he saw the statue's chest, about a square foot in size, where the copper appeared scorched and bubbling. When the time came for his execution, the prime minister's aide was overseeing the beheading, but the ox pulling the cart suddenly bolted, breaking the carriage. As a result, the execution was postponed to another day. Shortly after, an order arrived from Pengcheng stating, "If Monk Hong has not yet been executed, he may be pardoned." Thus, he was released and returned. When they opened the mold, they saw that on the statue's chest, sure enough, there were scorched and bubbling marks.
