### 釋遵式

> Master Zunshi

遵式禪師。台州臨海人。學行高古。名冠兩浙。專志安養。甞行般舟三昧。九十日為期。苦學嘔血。入道場。兩足皮裂。以死自誓。忽如夢中。見觀音垂手指其口。引出數虫。又指端出甘露注其口。覺身心清涼。疾遂愈。著淨土決疑行願。及淨土懺法。行於世。天聖間。將化之日。炷香禮佛。願諸佛證明。往生安養。至晚坐脫。人見大星隕於靈鷲峰。時號慈雲懺主云。又建光明懺堂時。每架一椽一甃。必誦大悲呪七遍。屢經兵火。巋然獨存。乃願力所致也。出往生集并武林高僧傳

> Master Zunshi was a native of Linhai in Taizhou. His learning and conduct were of the highest order, and his reputation spread throughout the Two Zhe regions. He devoted himself wholeheartedly to the practice of rebirth in the Pure Land. He once undertook the practice of Pratyutpanna Samadhi, committing to a ninety-day retreat. His rigorous study caused him to vomit blood, but he entered the practice hall nonetheless, his feet cracked and bleeding, vowing to persist until death itself. Then, as if in a dream, he saw Guanyin Bodhisattva reach down and touch his mouth with her finger, drawing out several worms. Then from her fingertip came sweet dew that flowed into his mouth. He woke feeling refreshed in body and mind, and his illness was completely cured. He authored works on Pure Land practice, including "Resolving Doubts and Making Vows for the Pure Land" and a Pure Land repentance ritual, both of which circulated widely. During the Tiansheng era, on the day of his passing, he burned incense and paid homage to the Buddha, praying for all Buddhas to bear witness to his rebirth in the Pure Land. That evening, he passed away while sitting in meditation. People saw a great star fall upon Vulture Peak. He became known as the "Repentance Master of Compassionate Clouds." When he was building the Shining Light Repentance Hall, for every rafter placed and every brick laid, he would recite the Great Compassion Mantra seven times.
