### 第十七祖僧伽難提尊者

> \*\*Seventeenth Patriarch, Venerable Sanghanandi\*\*

室羅筏城寶莊嚴王子也。生而能言。常讚佛事。七歲即厭世樂。以偈告於父母曰。

> In the city of Shravasti, there was a prince named Jeweled Adornment. From birth, he was able to speak and constantly praised the Buddha’s teachings. At seven years old, he grew weary of worldly pleasures and spoke to his parents in verse:

稽首大慈父 和南骨血母 我今欲出家幸願哀愍故

> I bow in reverence to my compassionate father, I pay homage to my mother of flesh and blood. Now I wish to leave home and become a monk, I humbly pray for your merciful understanding.

父母聞偈。固止之。遂誓曰。我今不食。自取命終。乃聽宮內出家。命沙門禪利多就宮傳導。經十九年。尊者每自念曰。身居王宮。胡為出家。一夕。天光下燭。見一大路坦平。徐行數里。至一大山。下有石窟焉。乃宴寂于中。父既失子。即擯禪利多訪尋之。不知所在。

> After hearing the verse, the parents tried to stop him firmly. But he made a solemn vow: "If I am not allowed to eat no more and will simply let myself die." So they permitted him to become a monk within the palace. They asked the monk Chandaka to guide him there. Nineteen years passed, but the venerable one often thought, "Though I live in the royal palace, in what way is this truly becoming a monk?" One night, heavenly light shone down, and he saw a great, flat road. Strolling along it for several miles, he came to a large mountain, at the foot of which was a cave. There he entered serene stillness. After the father lost his son, he immediately banished Chandaka and searched for him, but his whereabouts were unknown.

尊者後遊摩提國。忽有微風襲眾。清涼休適。眾不知其然。尊者曰。此道德之風也。當有聖者出世。嗣續祖燈乎。

> The Venerable One later traveled to the country of Mōtí. Suddenly, a gentle breeze brushed through the assembly, bringing clarity, coolness, and ease. The crowd did not understand the reason. The Venerable One said, "This is the wind of virtue and wisdom. Surely there will be a saintly being appearing in the world to carry on the lamp of the patriarchs."

言訖。以神力攝諸大眾。登一高峰。名寶落迦。尊者曰。此山頂有紫雲如蓋。聖人居此矣。

尊者見一童子持圓鑑直造尊者前。尊者問。汝幾歲耶。

曰。我當百歲。

尊者曰。汝年尚幼。何言百歲。

曰。我不會理。正當百歲。

尊者曰。汝善機耶。

曰。佛言。

若人生百歲 不解諸佛機 未若生一日而得決了之

師曰。汝持鏡者。意何所明。

答曰。

諸佛大圓鏡 內外無瑕翳 兩人同得見心眼皆相似

父母奇之。捨令出家。尊者即與披剃受具。名伽耶舍多。

時風吹銅鳴聲。尊者問曰。鈴鳴耶。風鳴耶。

伽耶曰。非風鈴鳴。我心鈴耳。

尊者曰。非風鈴鳴。我心誰爾。

伽耶曰。俱寂靜故。非三昧也。

尊者曰。善哉。繼吾嗣者。非子而誰。即告曰。如來以大法眼藏付囑迦葉。如是展轉以至於吾。吾今付汝。汝善護持。流布將來。勿令斷絕。汝受吾教。聽吾偈曰。

心地本無生 因地從緣起 緣種不相妨花果亦復爾

付法已。攀樹而化。眾議曰。尊者樹下歸寂。其垂蔭後裔乎。將奉全身葬子高原。而眾力不能舉。即就樹起塔。當前漢昭帝朝矣。
