### 新羅國智異山禪師

> Master Seon Master of Jirisan, Silla

僧問。師唱誰家曲。宗風嗣阿誰師云。小年曾歷他門戶。員至如今飽不飢　進云。恁麼即鎮陽格調。今日全施也　師云。盲龜值木且藏身。

> A monk asked, "Master, whose tune do you sing? Whose lineage do you carry?" The master replied, "In my youth, I passed through many doors, and to this day, I am full and never hungry." The monk pressed further, "Thus, the style of Zhenyang is fully demonstrated today." The master said, "A blind turtle finding a log—take cover while you can."

問。欲掏真性去。未免業纏牽。未審如何免得師云。放下著　進云。放後如何　師云。臨崖看虎眼。特地一場愁。

> Question: "I wish to rid myself of my true nature, but I cannot avoid being bound by karmic entanglements. How can I be free of them?" The master said, "Let go of it." Further question: "After letting go, what then?" The master said, "Standing at the cliff's edge, watching the tiger's eyes—a deliberate cause for worry."

問。如何是和尚家風　師云。瑠璃盌內水。符刀喝起行　進云。忽遇客來。將何祇待師云。三巡茶後室中煙。

> Question: "What is the Master's family style?" The Master said: "Water in a crystal bowl, raised high with a wooden ladle." Further question: "If a guest should arrive, how would you receive them?" The Master said: "After three rounds of tea, smoke rises in the room."

問。如何是鎮國寶　師云。華表柱頭。思天念地　進云。既是鎮國寶。為什麼却如此　師云。非公境界。

> Question: What is the treasure that guards the nation? The Master said: At the top of the ornamental pillar, one thinks of heaven and remembers earth. Further asked: Since it is the treasure that guards the nation, why is it so? The Master said: That is beyond your realm.

問。如何是菩提路　師云。三門前　進云。便恁麼去時如何　師云。看。

師上堂云。冬不寒。臘後看。便下座。
