### 蘇州洞庭山翠峯禪院慧月禪師

> Master Huiyue of Cuifeng Zen Temple, Dongting Mountain, Suzhou

升座云。若論祖師心印。豈於第一義諦中收得。非但第一義。三要收不盡。四句豈能該。假便言前明得。猶在半途。直饒言詮但忘。未免拖泥帶水。然雖如是。事不一向。或有疑情。便請出眾商量。

> Taking the high seat, the master said: When it comes to the mind seal of the patriarchs, how could it be contained within the ultimate truth? Not only the ultimate truth—even the three essentials cannot fully encompass it, and how could four phrases exhaust it? Even if one realizes it before words arise, one is still halfway there. Even if one completely forgets verbal explanations, one cannot avoid dragging mud and water. Nevertheless, things are not always the same. If there are doubts, please come forward and let us discuss them together.

時有僧問。師唱誰家曲。宗風嗣阿誰　師云。太子谷中垂韁非。鳳林關上羊祜󳬴進云。恁麼則昔時谷隱。今日當堂也　師云。楚山突屼三冬秀。漢水彎環四季清。

> A monk asked the master, "Whose tune are you singing? Whose legacy do you carry forward?" The master said, "In the Prince's Valley, the reins hang loose—this is not it. At Phoenix Forest Pass, Yang Hu's plans are not mine either." The monk said, "If that's so, then what was once hidden in the valley is now before the hall." The master said, "Chu Mountain stands tall, green through winter's three months; Han River winds gently, clear in all four seasons."

問。一華開五葉。結果自然成時如何　師云。脫却籠頭。卸却角䭾進云。拶出虗空去。處處盡󲄑香　師云。雲愁聞鬼哭。雪壓髑髏吟。

問。和尚未見谷隱時一句作麼生道　師云。步步登山遠　進云。見後如何　師云。驅驅信馬蹄。
