### 舒州四面山寶津禪師

> Master Baozhen of Simian Mountain, Shuzhou

有僧問。如何是祖師西來意師云。山寒氷冷。

> A monk asked, "What is the meaning of the Patriarch's coming from the West?" The master said, "The mountain is cold, the ice is chill."

師問修造僧。本自圓成。何得開山造寺　造云。擔枷過狀　師云。未在。更道　造云。兩重公案　師拈棒　造擬議　師便打。

> The master asked the monk in charge of construction, “Everything is inherently complete and perfect. Why then do you open mountains and build temples?” The monk replied, “Like carrying a cangue and then lodging a complaint.” The master said, “Not yet. Say more.” The monk said, “A double-layered case.” The master picked up his staff. As the monk hesitated, the master struck him.

問。僧什麼處來　僧云。舒州來　師云。正落四面手裏。僧無對　師云。且坐喫茶。

> Question: "Monk, where have you come from?" The monk said, "I've come from Shuzhou." The master said, "You've fallen right into my hands from all four sides." The monk had no reply. The master said, "Sit down and have some tea."
