Buddha Vipashyin (998th Buddha of the Past Glorious Kalpa)

The verse says: The body is born from formlessness, Like illusions taking various shapes. The mind of an illusory being is originally void; Karma, good or bad, is empty and has no fixed abode.

It is recorded in the Long Discourses (Dīrgha Āgama): When the human lifespan reaches eighty-four thousand years, this Buddha appears in the world. He is born into the warrior-ruler caste (Kṣatriya), with the family name of Kauṇḍinya. His father is Bandhu, his mother is Bandhuvatī, and he resides in the city of Bandhumatī. He attains enlightenment under a Pāṭali tree. He holds three teaching assemblies, guiding 348,000 people to liberation. His two chief disciples are Śaṅkha and Tiṣya, his attendant is Aśoka, and his son is Skandha.
