### ▲壽州道樹禪師

> Master Daoshu of Shouzhou

得法於北宗秀。卜壽州三峰山。結茅而居。常有野人。服色素朴。言談詭異。時忽化作佛及菩薩羅漢天仙等形。或放神光。或呈聲響。師之學徒覩之。皆不能測。如此涉十年。後寂無形影。師告眾曰。野人作多色伎倆。眩惑於人。只消老僧不見不聞。伊伎倆有窮。吾不見不聞無盡。

> He received the Dharma from Chan Master Shenxiu of the Northern School. He then divined a favorable spot on Mount Sanfeng in Shouzhou, where he built a thatched hut and resided. Often, there were wild men there, dressed plainly and simply, speaking in strange and unconventional ways. At times, they would suddenly transform into forms of Buddhas, Bodhisattvas, Arhats, celestial immortals, and so on. Sometimes they would emit radiant light, or produce sounds. The master's disciples, upon seeing this, could not fathom it all. This continued for about ten years, after which they vanished without a trace. The master then told his assembly, "Those wild men performed all manner of tricks to bewilder people. But it only took this old monk's not seeing and not hearing. Their tricks had limits, while my not seeing and not hearing has none."
