### ▲邢州開元法明上座

> Master Faming of Kaiyuan Temple, Xingzhou

得法報本。歸里落魄。多嗜酒呼盧。醉則唱柳詞數闋。人呼為醉和尚。一日謂寺眾曰。吾明旦當行。汝等無他往。眾竊笑之。翌晨攝衣就座。大呼曰。吾去矣。聽吾一偈。眾聞奔視。師乃曰。平生醉裏顛蹶。醉裏却有分別。今宵酒醒。何處楊柳岸。曉風殘月。言訖寂然。撼之已委蛻矣。

> Having attained the Dharma and repaid his fundamental debt, he returned to his hometown in reduced circumstances. He was fond of drinking and gambling, and when drunk, he would sing several verses of Liu Yong's lyrics. People called him the "Drunken Monk." One day, he told the monastery's assembly, "Tomorrow at dawn I will depart. Do not go elsewhere." The monks secretly laughed at him. The next morning, he gathered his robes and sat down, then shouted loudly, "I am leaving now. Hear my verse." The monks heard this and rushed to see. The master then said, "All my life, drunk, I stumbled and fell; yet in drunkenness, there was still discernment. Tonight, sober from wine—where is the willow-lined shore, the morning breeze, and the waning moon?" With these words, he fell silent. When they shook him, he had already shed his mortal coil.
