> Zen Master Huilan of Guangxiao Temple, Hezhou

不知何許人也。甞以觸衣書七佛名。叢林稱為蘭布裩。建炎末。逆虜犯淮。執師見酋長。長曰。聞我名否。師曰。我所聞者唯大宋天子之名。長恚令左右以鎚擊之。鎚至輒斷壞。長驚異。延麾下敬事之。經旬師索薪自焚。無敢供者。親拾薪成龕。怡然端坐。烟焰一起。流光四騰。虜跪伏多灼膚者。火絕得五色舍利。併靈骨北歸。所執僧尼悉聽自便。和人至今詠之。

> I do not know where this person came from. He would write the names of the Seven Buddhas on his cloth garments, and the monastic community called him "Ragged Robe." During the Jianyan era, when the invaders crossed the Huai River, he was captured and brought before their leader. The leader asked, "Do you know my name?" The master replied, "The only name I know is that of the Great Song Emperor." Enraged, the leader ordered his guards to strike him with hammers, but every hammer that hit him broke apart. The leader was astonished and brought him into his camp, treating him with respect. After ten days, the master asked for firewood for self-immolation. No one dared to provide it, so he gathered the wood himself and formed a shrine. Calmly seated upright, as soon as the flames rose, light radiated in all directions. Many of the invaders knelt on the ground and were burned by the blaze. When the fire died down, five-colored relics were found alongside his cremated remains, which were then taken north. The monks and nuns who had been captured were all released to do as they pleased, and people still recount his story to this day.
