僧問。靈臺不立。還有出身處也無。師曰。有。曰。如何是出身處。師曰。出。問。如何是西來意。師曰。道。問。如何是佛法大意。師曰。驗。問。牛頭未見四祖時如何。師曰。自由自在。曰。見後如何。師曰。自由自在。問。如何是佛法中事。師曰。了。

> A monk asked, "If the mind's foundation is not established, is there still a way to escape?" The master said, "Yes." The monk asked, "What is the way to escape?" The master said, "Escape." The monk asked, "What is the meaning of the Patriarch's coming from the West?" The master said, "The Way." The monk asked, "What is the essence of the Buddha's teaching?"
