如是我聞：

> Thus have I heard:

一時，佛住毘舍離獼猴池側重閣講堂。

> At one time, the Buddha was staying in Vesali, by the side of the Monkey Pond, in the Great Pavilion Hall.

爾時，世尊告諸比丘：「我今當說所取法及取法。云何所取法？眼色、耳聲、鼻香、舌味、身觸、意法，是名所取法。云何取法？謂欲貪，是名取法。」

> At that time, the World-Honored One said to the monks: "I will now teach what is clung to and what clinging is. What is clung to? The eye and forms, the ear and sounds, the nose and scents, the tongue and tastes, the body and touches, the mind and mental objects—these are called what is clung to. What is clinging? It is desire and attachment. This is called clinging."

佛說此經已，諸比丘聞佛所說，歡喜奉行。

> After the Buddha had spoken this sutra, all the bhikkhus rejoiced in his words and faithfully put them into practice.
