如是我聞：

> Thus have I heard:

一時，佛住毘舍離獼猴池側重閣講堂。

> At one time, the Buddha was staying in Vesali, by the side of the Monkey Pond, in the Great Pavilion Hall.

爾時，世尊告諸比丘：「若眼不知、不識、不斷、不離欲，不堪能正盡苦；於眼若知、若識、若斷、若離欲，堪能正盡苦。」

> At that time, the World-Honored One told the monks: "If one does not understand the eye, does not recognize it, does not abandon it, and does not become free from desire toward it, one is incapable of truly ending Suffering. But if one understands the eye, recognizes it, abandons it, and becomes free from desire toward it, one is capable of truly ending Suffering."

佛說此經已，諸比丘聞佛所說，歡喜奉行。

> After the Buddha had spoken this sutra, all the bhikkhus rejoiced in his words and faithfully put them into practice.

如眼四經，如是乃至意二十四經如上說。
