> Chapter 576

如是我聞：

> Thus have I heard:

一時，佛在舍衛國祇樹給孤獨園。

> Once, the Buddha was staying in the Jeta Grove, in the garden of Anathapindika, near the city of Shravasti.

時，有一天子，容色絕妙，於後夜時來詣佛所，稽首佛足，退坐一面。身諸光明遍照祇樹給孤獨園。

> At that time, a certain deity, of extraordinary beauty and radiance, came to the Buddha's presence in the late hours of the night. After paying homage at the Buddha's feet, the deity sat to one side. The light emanating from the deity's body illuminated the entire Jeta Grove, filling the tranquil surroundings with its glow.

時，彼天子說偈白佛：

> Then that deity spoke this verse to the Buddha:

「不處難陀林， 終不得快樂，忉利天宮中， 得天帝名稱。」

> Not dwelling in Nanda's grove, One can never find true joy— But in the heavenly realm of Trayastrimsa, One earns the title of Lord of the Gods.

爾時，世尊說偈答言：

> At that time, the World-Honored One spoke these verses in reply:

「童蒙汝何知， 阿羅漢所說，一切行無常， 是則生滅法，生者既復滅， 俱寂滅為樂。」

> "Child, what do you know? The Arhats have said: All conditioned things are impermanent— This is the nature of arising and passing away. What arises must also cease; Their stillness brings true peace."

時，彼天子復說偈言：

> Then that celestial being spoke again in verse:

「久見婆羅門， 逮得般涅槃，一切怖已過， 永超世恩愛。」

> "Having long seen the Brahmin, Who has attained complete Nirvana, All fears have passed away, Forever transcending the world's bonds of love."

時，彼天子聞佛所說，歡喜隨喜，稽首佛足，即沒不現。

> Then that deva, hearing what the Buddha said, rejoiced with delight, bowed at the Buddha's feet, and vanished from sight.
