### （八三六）

如是我聞：

> This is what I heard:

一時，佛住舍衛國祇樹給孤獨園。

> At that time, the Buddha was staying in the Jeta Grove, Anathapindika's Park, in the city of Shravasti.

爾時，世尊告諸比丘：「汝等當起哀愍心、慈悲心。若有人於汝等所說樂聞樂受者，汝當為說四不壞淨，令入令住。何等為四？於佛不壞淨、於法不壞淨、於僧不壞淨、於聖戒成就。所以者何？若四大——地、水、火、風，有變易增損，此四不壞淨未甞增損變異。彼無增損變異者，謂多聞聖弟子於佛不壞淨成就，若墮地獄、畜生、餓鬼者，無有是處！是故，諸比丘！當作是學：『我當成就於佛不壞淨，法、僧不壞淨，聖戒成就，亦當建立餘人，令成就。』」

> At that time, the World-Honored One addressed the bhikkhus, saying: “You should cultivate a heart of compassion and loving-kindness. If there are people who delight in listening to and accepting what you teach, you should explain to them the Four Unshakable Convictions, guiding them to enter and abide in them. What are these four? Unshakable conviction in the Buddha, unshakable conviction in the Dharma, unshakable conviction in the Sangha, and the accomplishment of noble ethical conduct. Why is this? Even if the four great elements—earth, water, fire, and wind—undergo change, increase, or decrease, these Four Unshakable Convictions never increase, decrease, or change. That which does not increase, decrease, or change refers to the accomplished unshakable conviction in the Buddha attained by a learned noble disciple. For such a one, there is no possibility of falling into the hells, the animal realm, or the realm of hungry ghosts. Therefore, bhikkhus, you should train yourselves thus: ‘I shall accomplish unshakable conviction in the Buddha, in the Dharma, in the Sangha, and the accomplishment of noble ethical conduct, and I shall also help others to establish and accomplish these.’”

佛說此經已，諸比丘聞佛所說，歡喜奉行。

> When the Buddha had finished speaking this sutra, the monks who heard his teaching rejoiced and resolved to practice it.
