> Chapter 888

如是我聞：

> Thus have I heard:

一時，佛住舍衛國祇樹給孤獨園。

> Thus have I heard: At one time, the Buddha was dwelling in the Jeta Grove, Anāthapiṇḍika’s Park, in Śrāvastī.

時，有異婆羅門來詣佛所，面相慰勞，慰勞已，退坐一面，白佛言：「瞿曇！我名增益。」

> At that time, a certain Brahman came to visit the Buddha. After exchanging greetings, he sat down to one side and said, "Gotama, my name is Increase."

佛告婆羅門：「所謂增益者，信增益，戒、聞、捨、慧增益，是為增益，非名字為增益也。」

> The Buddha said to the Brahmin: "What is called 'increase' means the increase of faith, morality, learning, generosity, and wisdom. This is true increase, not merely an increase in name."

時，婆羅門聞佛所說，歡喜隨喜，從坐起而去。
