> (1087)

如是我聞：

> Thus have I heard:

一時，佛住王舍城迦蘭陀竹園。

> Thus have I heard: At one time, the Buddha was staying in the Bamboo Grove of Kalandaka, near Rajagaha.

爾時，世尊夜起經行，至後夜時，洗足入室，右脇臥息，繫念明相，正念正智，作起覺想。

> At that time, the World-Honored One rose at night and walked in meditation. Toward the latter part of the night, he washed his feet, entered his dwelling, and lay down on his right side, resting with mindfulness fixed on the light, dwelling in <note>Right Mindfulness</note> and clear wisdom, and forming the intention to rise again.

時，魔波旬作是念：「今沙門瞿曇住王舍城迦蘭陀竹園，乃至作起覺想。我今當往，為作留難。」即化作年少，往住佛前，而說偈言：

> At that time, Mara, the Evil One, had this thought: "Now the ascetic Gautama is staying in the Bamboo Grove of Kalandaka in Rajagaha... and is still arousing thoughts and ideas. I should go now and create obstacles for him." So he transformed himself into a young man, went and stood before the Buddha, and spoke these verses:

「何眠何故眠？ 已滅何復眠？空舍何以眠， 得出復何眠？」

爾時，世尊作是念：「惡魔波旬欲作嬈亂。」即說偈言：

「愛網故染著， 無愛誰持去，一切有餘盡， 唯佛得安眠，汝惡魔波旬， 於此何所說。」

時，魔波旬作是念：「沙門瞿曇已知我心。」慚愧憂慼，即沒不現。
