如是我聞：

> Thus have I heard:

一時，佛住王舍城多眾踐蹈曠野中，與五百比丘眾俱，而為說法，以五百鉢置於中庭。

> At one time, the Buddha was staying in a vast open field at Rajagaha where many people walked, together with a community of five hundred monks. He was teaching the Dharma, and five hundred alms bowls were placed in the courtyard.

爾時，世尊為五百比丘說五受陰生滅之法。

> At that time, the World-Honored One taught the five hundred monks about the arising and passing away of the five aggregates of clinging.

時，魔波旬作是念：「沙門瞿曇住王舍城多眾踐蹈曠野中，與五百比丘俱，乃至說五受陰是生滅法。我今當往，為作留難。」化作大牛，往詣佛所，入彼五百鉢間，諸比丘即驅，莫令壞鉢。

> At that time, Mara, the Evil One, had this thought: "The ascetic Gautama is staying in the open wilderness at Rajagaha, trampled by crowds, together with five hundred monks, and he is teaching that the five aggregates of clinging are subject to arising and passing away. I should go now and create an obstacle for him." So he transformed himself into a great bull and went to where the Buddha was, wedging himself among those five hundred bowls. The monks immediately tried to drive it away, so that it would not break the bowls.

爾時，世尊告諸比丘：「此非是牛，是魔波旬欲作嬈亂。」即說偈言：

> At that time, the World-Honored One told the monks: "This is not an ox; it is Mara, the Evil One, trying to cause trouble." Then he spoke this verse:

「色受想行識， 非我及我所，若知真實義， 於彼無所著。心無所著法， 超出色結縛，了達一切處， 不住魔境界。」

> Form, feeling, perception, mental formations, and consciousness— none of these are the self or belong to the self. When one sees this truly as it is, one clings to none of them. With a mind that clings to no Dharma, one rises beyond the bonds of form, fully understanding everywhere, and dwells no longer in Mara's realm.

佛說此經已，諸比丘聞佛所說，歡喜奉行。

> After the Buddha had spoken this sutra, all the bhikkhus rejoiced in his words and faithfully put them into practice.
