### ○四明天童癡鈍智頴禪師

> Chan Master Chidun Zhiying of Tiantong, in the fourth year of Ming

出世茶陵軍嚴福。遷金陵保寧蔣山紹興報恩蘇州靈巖。再住蔣山。遷四明雪竇至天童。上堂。德山棒。臨濟喝。龍躍雲津。雷驚蟄戶。開得眼者頓彰意氣。無轉動者死在其中。諸人要見德山臨濟麼。卓拄杖喝一喝下座。上堂。日面月面。機前轉變。千人萬人是誰親見。西風一陣來。落葉兩三片。上堂。馬祖陞堂百丈卷席。象王回旋獅子返擲。擬議青天轟霹靂。頌初祖見梁武帝話曰。提起須彌第一槌。玉門金鏁擊難開。重施背踏空勞力。應悔迢迢萬里來。贈術士偈曰。無位真人赤骨律。面門出入有誰知。太虗元與渠同壽。庾甲憑君子細推。示張大夫獄吏偈曰。活捉生擒百種囚。敲枷打鎻問來由。箇中一字能通變。活却從前死路頭。

> Emerging from Chaling Military, Yan Fu moved to Jinling's Baoning, then Jiangshan, Shaoxing's Bao'en, and Suzhou's Lingyan. He resided again at Jiangshan, then moved to Siming's Xuedou and finally to Tiantong. Ascending the hall, he said: "Deshan's staff, Linji's shout—a dragon leaps across the clouded ford, thunder startles the dormant insects. Those with open eyes instantly reveal their spirit; those who cannot turn remain dead within. Do you wish to see Deshan and Linji?" He struck the ground with his staff, gave a shout, and descended from the seat. Ascending the hall, he said: "The sun-faced and moon-faced—transformations before the mechanism. Among a thousand or ten thousand people, who sees this directly? A west wind arrives, and two or three leaves fall." Ascending the hall, he said: "Mazu ascended the hall, Baizhang rolled up the mat. The elephant king turns around, the lion leaps back. Hesitate, and thunder cracks across the clear sky." A verse on the First Patriarch's meeting with Emperor Wu of Liang: "Lifting Vajra's first blow—the jade gate's golden lock resists all strikes. Stepping back and pressing forward exhausts one's strength; he should regret the long journey of ten thousand miles." A verse for a diviner: "The true person without rank, bare-boned and unadorned—who knows his comings and goings through the face? The vast void shares his lifespan; let you, sir, carefully calculate his years." A verse for Minister Zhang, a prison official: "Seizing alive and capturing the myriad prisoners, you knock off their cuffs and break their locks to question their origins. Within this, one word can transform and penetrate—reviving the dead-end path from before."
