> Master Tán of Withered Stump, Tiger Hill, Suzhou

上堂。舉大梅常禪師問馬大師如何是佛。大師云即心是佛。師云。要知馬師蹲坐處麼。水向石邊流出冷。風從花裏過來香。

> The master took the seat and recounted: Great Master Damei asked Grand Master Mazu, "What is Buddha?" Mazu replied, "This very mind is Buddha." The master then said, "Do you want to know where Mazu was seated? The water flows cold past the rocks; the wind carries fragrance through the flowers."
