### ○杭州淨慈靈石如芝禪師

> Master Ruzhi of Lingshi at Jingci Temple, Hangzhou

初住嘉禾興聖。遷台之湧泉嘉興本覺。上堂。奔蜂不能化藿蠋。魯雞不能伏鵠卵。衲僧九十日中剛要蒸沙作󰕖。者一半那一半。劈腹剜心窮坑易滿。上堂。六月不熱。五穀不結。波斯頂上󰋪曉鏡。金剛腦後添生鐵。豈不見雲門大師道盡大地無纖毫過患。猶是轉句。不見一色。始是半提。更須知有全提時節。卓拄杖下座。上堂。結夏已一月。光陰迅如注。水牯牛水草傷甘。寒山子飯飽弄筯。針膏肓。起沉痼。山僧有易簡私方。普施諸人去也。擊拂子。若飯食時量彼來處。

> First, he resided at Jiaxing Xingsheng Temple, then moved to Yongquan Jiaxing Benjue Temple. At a formal Dharma assembly, he said: "A humble bee cannot transform a caterpillar; a common hen cannot hatch a swan's egg. Monks, throughout ninety days, you insist on steaming sand to make rice. Half of this, half of that—splitting your belly and digging out your heart, the pit of exhaustion is easy to fill." At another assembly, he said: "If June is not hot, the five grains will not bear fruit. A Persian's crown reflects the morning mirror; behind Vajra's head, raw iron is added. Have you not heard Venerable Master Yunmen say: 'The entire great earth has not a single hair of fault—this is still a turning phrase. Not seeing a single form—that is only half the lifting. You must also know the time of full lifting.'" He struck his staff and descended from the seat. At another assembly, he said: "The summer retreat has already lasted one month; time flows swiftly like water. The water buffalo grazes on sweet water and grass; Cold Mountain's son eats his fill and plays with his chopsticks. Needling the critical points, reviving the severely ill—this mountain monk has a simple and easy private prescription, freely given to all of you." He tapped his whisk and said, "When eating, consider where the food comes from."
