### ○常州天寧滄海智寶禪師

> Master Zhi Bao of Canghai Chan Monastery, Tianning Temple, Changzhou

紹興人。蘇之嘉定普照出家。禮鐵壁通公為剃度師。初住長洲月輪。遷常之天寧。上堂。奔流度刃未是作家。疾焰過風猶為鈍漢。德山見僧入門便棒。笑殺旁觀。臨濟見僧入門便喝。飜成劇戲。指南一路智者知踈。末後一機通人解會。若是舉一明三目機銖兩底。撥著便動撩起便行。猶是外邊打之遶離此之餘。不堪種草。總不恁麼。又且如何。良久。將此深心奉塵剎。是則名為報佛恩。退歸普照而終。火後門人收骨附葬鐵壁塔側。

> A native of Shaoxing. He left home at Puzhao Temple in Jiading, Suzhou, taking Master Tiebi Tong as his ordination teacher. He first resided at Yuelun in Changzhou, then moved to Tianning in Chang Prefecture. Ascending the hall, he said: "Racing currents and cutting edges are not yet masters; passing through flames faster than wind is still dull. When Deshan saw a monk enter the gate, he immediately struck with his staff—making onlookers laugh. When Linji saw a monk enter the gate, he immediately shouted—turning it into a theatrical play. The direct path is known by the wise to be sparse; the final moment is understood by those who grasp it. If one can raise one and understand three, discerning the subtleties, then touched and moved, lifted and walking—still circling outside. Apart from this, one cannot plant seeds. If not like this, then what? After a long pause: 'With this deep mind, I offer to countless worlds; this is called repaying the Buddha's kindness.'" He returned to Puzhao and passed away. After cremation, his disciples gathered his bones and buried them beside Master Tiebi's stupa.
