### ○四明保福一菴如禪師

> Fourth Patriarch Baofu Yuan Ru Chan Master

溫州人。上堂。昨日說凡夫法聖人不會。今日說聖人法凡夫不知。拈拄杖卓一下。蝦蟆跳上梵天。蚯蚓驀過東海。上堂。三德六味供佛供僧。有情無情均沾利樂。還有知恩報恩者麼。有水皆含月。無山不帶雲。上堂。粥罷喫茶。茶罷陞座。摩訶衍法。離四句絕百非。便下座。

> A person from Wenzhou. Ascending the hall, he said: "Yesterday I spoke of the ways of ordinary beings, which sages do not understand. Today I speak of the ways of sages, which ordinary beings do not know." He picked up his staff and struck it once. "A toad leaps into the heavenly realm; an earthworm crosses the Eastern Sea." Ascending the hall, he said: "With the three virtues and six flavors, we offer to the Buddhas and the Sangha. All beings, sentient and insentient, equally share in the benefit and joy. Is there anyone who knows gratitude and repays it? Wherever there is water, it holds the moon; no mountain is without clouds." Ascending the hall, he said: "After the porridge, we drink tea. After the tea, I ascend this seat. The Great Vehicle's Dharma transcends all words and surpasses all negation." Then he descended from the seat.
