### ○黃巖靈石古帆新禪師

> Master Xinchang of Gufan, Lingshi, Huangyan

初見東州永於虎丘。俾典藏鑰。次見竺原於鴻福。一夕上方丈請益云。某甲看狗子無佛性話無入頭處。望和尚垂示。原厲聲云夜深下去。師歸堂中詬罵云。不為我說則休。何得見嗔。有人說向竺原。竺原云他向後自會去在。師聞之當下廓然。

> When the master first met Dongzhou Yong at Tiger Hill, he was put in charge of the library keys. Later, he met Zhuyuan at Hongfu Temple. One evening, he went to the abbot's quarters to seek guidance, saying, "I have been contemplating the koan 'A dog has no Buddha-nature' but cannot find a way in. I humbly ask the master for instruction." Zhuyuan shouted sternly, "It's late, go down." The master returned to the hall, grumbling, "If he wouldn't teach me, that's fine. But why did he have to show anger?" Someone reported this to Zhuyuan, who said, "He will understand on his own in time." Upon hearing this, the master was suddenly enlightened.
