### ○日東建長竺仙梵仙禪師

> Master Zhuxian Fanxian of Kenchōji Temple, Japan

自號來來禪子。見休居於保寧。得心要泰定間。日東遣使來聘。既至其國。道契其王臣。度人不可勝紀。熈怡和尚甞敘其語錄有云。惟古林諸子多賢。而嶄然絕出者二人。其一南堂欲公道鳴中國。其一竺仙化徹異󳬛。可謂二甘露門矣。是錄稱性而談妙得家法。縱橫迅揵雲興泉注。示用應機如矢中的。宜乎東人感化得度者夥也。南堂甞以三偈悼之。其一曰。五住招提盡大方。座中冠盖擁朝行。雷音遠震扶桑國。繕寫歸來作寶藏。

> He called himself Lailei Chan Master (the Coming and Going Zen Master). He lived under the guidance of Xiuju at Baoning Monastery, where he attained the essential mind-seal. During the Taiding era, Japan sent envoys to invite him. Upon arriving in that country, his teachings resonated deeply with its rulers and ministers, and those he guided to liberation were too numerous to count. The venerable Xiyi once wrote a preface to his recorded sayings, remarking: "Among the many worthy disciples of the Ancient Grove lineage, two stood out as exceptionally brilliant. One was Master Yutang, whose teachings resounded throughout China. The other was Zhuxian, whose transformation of others reached far beyond the ordinary world. These two can truly be called twin gates of nectar." This record speaks directly from the nature of mind, skillfully inheriting the family tradition. Its expression flows with swiftness and ease, like clouds rising and springs gushing forth. Its guidance adapts to circumstances with the precision of an arrow hitting the target. It is no wonder that so many people in the East were moved to awakening and found liberation through it. Yutang once composed three verses in mourning for him. The first reads: "Five monasteries he graced with his presence, vast and noble. In the assembly sat ministers and officials, their hats and robes gathered in rows. His thunderous voice echoed far to the land of Fusang, And when his writings were brought back, they became a cherished treasure."
