朗州東邑懷政禪師。仰山來參。師問。汝何處人。仰山曰。廣南人。師曰。我聞廣南有鎮海明珠是否。仰山曰是。師曰。此珠何形狀。仰山曰。白月即現。師曰。汝將得來否。仰山曰。將得來。師曰。何不呈似老僧看。仰山曰。昨到溈山亦就慧寂索此珠。直得無言可對無理可宣。師曰。真師子兒大師子吼。

> Chan Master Huaizheng of Dongyi in Langzhou. Yangshan came to pay his respects. The Master asked, "Where are you from?" Yangshan said, "From Guangnan." The Master said, "I've heard that Guangnan has a precious pearl that illuminates the sea—is that true?" Yangshan said, "Yes." The Master said, "What shape is this pearl?" Yangshan said, "It appears when the white moon is full." The Master said, "Have you brought it with you?" Yangshan said, "I've brought it." The Master said, "Why not show it to me?" Yangshan said, "When I arrived at Weishan yesterday, I also asked Huiji for this pearl, but he had no words to answer and no principle to proclaim." The Master said, "A true lion's cub, roaring like a great lion."
