福州芙蓉山靈訓禪師。初參歸宗問。如何是佛。宗曰。我向汝道汝還信否。師曰。和尚發誠實言何敢不信。宗曰。即汝便是。師曰。如何保任。宗曰。一翳在眼空華亂墜法眼云。歸宗若無後語有什麼歸宗也師辭歸宗。宗問。子什麼處去。師曰。歸嶺中去。宗曰。子在此多年裝束了却來。為子說一上佛法。師結束了上堂。宗曰。近前來。師乃近前。宗曰。時寒途中善為。師聆此一言頓忘前解。後歸寂諡弘照大師。塔曰圓相。

> Master Lingxun of Furong Mountain in Fuzhou first studied under Master Guizong. He asked, "What is Buddha?" Guizong said, "If I tell you, will you believe it?" Lingxun replied, "How could I not believe what the Master sincerely says?" Guizong said, "You yourself are it." Lingxun asked, "How should I maintain this?" Guizong said, "When there is a single obstruction in the eye, empty flowers fall chaotically."<note>Fayan commented: "If Guizong had not added this final remark, what would make him Guizong?"</note> Later, Lingxun took leave of Guizong. Guizong asked, "Where are you going?" Lingxun said, "Back to the mountains." Guizong said, "You have been here for many years. Pack up and come back—I will give you a talk on the Dharma." After Lingxun had prepared, he came to the hall. Guizong said, "Come closer." Lingxun stepped forward. Guizong said, "It's cold on the road—take good care of yourself." Upon hearing these words, Lingxun instantly let go of all his previous understanding. Later, when he passed away, he was given the posthumous title Great Master Hongzhao, and his stupa was named "Perfect Mark."
