溫州雲山佛󱙲院知默禪師第二世住師上堂曰。山僧如今看見諸上坐。恁麼行脚喫辛喫苦盤山涉㵎。終不為觀看州縣參尋名山聖迹。莫非為此一大事。如今且要諸人於本參中通箇消息來。雲山敢與證明。非但雲山證明。乃至禪林佛剎亦與證明。僧問。如何是佛󱙲家風。師曰。送客不離三步內。邀賓只在草堂前。

> Master Zhimo of Yunshan Buddhist Temple in Wenzhou<note>Second generation abbot</note> addressed the assembly, saying: "This mountain monk now sees all of you venerable practitioners traversing paths with such hardship—scaling mountains and crossing streams—not merely to sightsee the prefectures or seek out renowned mountains and sacred relics. Rather, it is for this one great matter. Now I ask each of you to bring forth a message from your own meditation practice. I, Yunshan, dare to bear witness for you. Not only does Yunshan bear witness, but even the entire Chan grove and Buddhist temples will bear witness as well." A monk asked, "What is the family style of Buddhism?" The master replied, "Seeing off guests, one does not leave within three steps; welcoming visitors, one remains only before the thatched hall."
