晉州興教師普禪師。僧問。盈龍宮溢海藏真詮即不問。如何是教外別傳底法。師曰。眼裏耳裏鼻裏。曰只此便是否。師曰。是什麼。僧咄。師亦咄。問僧。近離什麼處。曰下寨。師曰。還逢著賊麼。曰今日捉下。師曰。放汝三十棒。

> A monk asked Master Pu of Xingjiao in Jinzhou, "The true teachings filling the Dragon Palace and overflowing the Sea Treasury—I won't ask about those. What is the Dharma transmitted separately outside the teachings?" The Master said, "In the eyes, ears, and nose." The monk asked, "Is this it, then?" The Master said, "What is that?" The monk gave a sharp shout. The Master also gave a shout. Then the Master asked the monk, "Where have you just come from?" The monk replied, "From setting up camp." The Master said, "Did you encounter any thieves?" The monk said, "I've caught one today." The Master said, "I'll spare you thirty blows."
