> This is called the tenth kind of deluded mind regarding perfect enlightenment, which results in attaining an outcome of clear stillness. Going against perfect interpenetration and turning away from the city of Nirvana, one gives rise to a notion of perfect enlightenment and clear radiance, yet fails to transform the seeds of perfection.

> Supplementary text says: The nature of Perfect Enlightenment operates in both stillness and illumination, yet the mind that seeks quiescence only pursues the side of stillness. Now, within the Three Truths of Perfect Enlightenment, if one one-sidedly adopts the mind of quiescence, it becomes the fruit of the Pratyekabuddha's serene clarity. The "birth of enlightenment" and "perfect clarity" here refer to the Pratyekabuddha's emptiness and stillness.

> The text in Zizhong says: to cling to the fruit of cessation of suffering becomes an obstacle to giving up the cycle of birth and death—this is called the seed that does not transform into the perfect nature. Therefore, the Vijñaptimātratā-siddhi says: śrāvakas are hindered by fear of Suffering, and pratyekabuddhas are hindered by abandoning birth-and-death.

> Changshui said: "One realizes the perfect clarity of consciousness but lacks the wondrous power of compassionate transformation—this is called the non-transforming perfect seed."

> Supplement says: Thus, precisely because Pratyekabuddhas cannot transform beings, it is said they are "unconvertible." From the perspective of the Perfect Teaching, it can also be said: Pratyekabuddhas have a nature that awakens on their own without a teacher, appearing in a world without a Buddha—even a Buddha cannot convert them, hence "unconvertible." This is why there are stories of them burning their bodies or moving away, considering themselves irreconcilable with the Buddha.
