### 有嚴

宋有嚴。住台州赤城崇善寺。依神照學天台教。晚年結茆樝木之下。號曰樝菴。平生篤修淨業。有懷安養故鄉詩。為時所傳。建中靖國元年夏四月將終。見寶池大蓮花。天樂四列。乃作餞歸淨土詩示眾。後七日跏趺而化。塔上有光如月。三夕方隱。

> During the Song Dynasty, there was a monk named Yan who resided at Chongshan Temple on Mount Chicheng in Taizhou. He studied the Tiantai teachings under the guidance of Master Shenzhao. In his later years, he built a simple thatched hut beneath a hawthorn tree and called it the "Hawthorn Hut." Throughout his life, he earnestly practiced the Pure Land teachings. His poem "Longing for the Peaceful Homeland of the Western Pure Land" was widely circulated at the time. In the summer of the first year of the Jianzhong Jingguo era, in the fourth month, as he neared the end of his life, he saw a great lotus flower in a jeweled pond and celestial music playing all around. He then composed a poem titled "Farewell, Returning to the Pure Land" to show to the assembly. Seven days later, he passed away in the lotus posture. Above his stupa, a light as bright as the moon shone for three nights before fading away.

贊曰。前法祥鏡光。現於壁端。今嚴公月光。現於塔上。皆身心瑩徹之明驗也。乃至光明滿室者。金光彌亘江上數百里者。嗚呼。是可以偽為乎哉。

> Praise it is said: In the past, the Dharma's auspicious mirror-light appeared on the wall's edge. Now, Venerable Yan's moon-light appears upon the stupa. These are both clear proofs of a mind and body purified to luminous clarity. As for the light that filled the room, or the golden radiance that stretched for hundreds of miles across the river—alas! Could such things possibly be fabricated?
