### 一七

> Seventh Day

大德。不蘭迦葉。乃報我言。「大王。不論自作〔何事。〕或教人作。截、使截、苦、使苦、惱、使惱、慄、使慄、殘害生命、取非所與、踰人家牆、劫盜掠奪、與人妻通、口為妄語。行如此事。非為惡也。若有人焉。以鋒利輪寶。臠割地上眾生。以為肉聚。以為肉塊。不因此事。而生罪惡。亦無罪報。有人於此。行恒河南。殺、或使殺、截、或使截、苦、或使苦。不因此事。而生罪惡。亦無罪報。有人於此。行恒河北。從事布施、或教布施、從事祭祀、或教祭祀。不因此事。而生功德。亦無福報。不因布施。不因調御。不因禁戒。不因實語。而生功德。亦無福報。」

> Venerable sir, Purana Kassapa said to me: "Great king, whether one does deeds oneself or causes others to do them—whether cutting, causing to cut, tormenting, causing to torment, distressing, causing to distress, intimidating, causing to intimidate—taking life, taking what is not given, breaking into houses, robbing, plundering, committing adultery, speaking falsehoods—doing such things is not evil. If someone were to slice all living beings on earth into a heap of flesh with a sharp discus, no evil would arise from this, nor would there be any evil retribution. If someone were to travel along the southern bank of the Ganges, killing or causing to kill, cutting or causing to cut, tormenting or causing to torment—no evil would arise from this, nor would there be any evil retribution. If someone were to travel along the northern bank of the Ganges, giving or causing to give, making offerings or causing offerings to be made—no merit would arise from this, nor would there be any reward. Neither giving, nor self-restraint, nor precepts, nor truthful speech gives rise to merit or brings any reward."
