迦葉．我昔一時．在王舍城靈鷲山。曾於其處．有苦行梵志尼俱陀。以遁世問我。我答問時．彼甚歡喜。』『吾師．聽世尊法．誰不歡喜者。我聽世尊法．亦甚歡喜。最勝吾師．最勝吾師。猶如使倒者得起．閉者得開．迷途者示之以道．冥室燃燈．有目得視．世尊所說．亦復如是．以無數方便．宣說正法。吾師．今我歸依世尊．歸依法僧。唯願吾師．許我於世尊所．出家得受進具。』

> Kashyapa, once I was staying at Vulture Peak near Rajagriha. At that time, a wandering ascetic named Nigrodha, who practiced rigorous austerities, came to me seeking answers about renunciation. When I responded to his questions, he was overjoyed. He said, "Master, who would not rejoice upon hearing the Dharma from the World-Honored One? I too am filled with joy upon hearing it. You are the supreme teacher, the foremost guide. Just as one who has fallen is helped to rise, one who is confined is set free, one who is lost is shown the way, and a lamp is lit in a dark room so that those with eyes may see—so too does the World-Honored One teach the true Dharma through countless skillful means. Master, from this day onward, I take refuge in the World-Honored One, and in the Dharma and the Sangha. I humbly ask that you, Master, permit me to go forth into homelessness and receive full ordination under the World-Honored One."
