> Preface

此本生因緣．是佛在祇園精舍時．就給與親族以福利之行為說的。其事當見於第十二編跋陀娑羅樹神本生因緣〔第四六五〕中。佛為欲一併成立此因緣談．故說過去之事。

> This birth story was told by the Buddha while he was residing at Jeta's Grove Monastery, concerning his acts of kindness toward his relatives. The incident is found in the twelfth book, the Bhadra-sala Tree Spirit Birth Story (No. 465). To establish this tale fully, the Buddha recounted an event from the past.
