> Conclusion

佛道．『比丘啊．在前生．賢者在敵患之中勵行精進．雖負傷而精進不廢。你現在歸向了導入涅槃的教而出家．為何怠廢於精進呢。』接着為說明四諦．說畢四諦．那個怠於精進的比丘即證得阿羅漢果。佛作此法話後．復取了聯絡．把本生的今昔聯結起來道．『那時的國王是阿難．騎士是舍利弗．駿馬則就是我。』

> The Buddha said: "Monks, in a past life, the wise one strove diligently amidst enemies, and even when wounded, did not abandon effort. Now that you have gone forth into the teaching that leads to Nirvana, why have you become lax in your exertion?" Then, to explain the Four Noble Truths, he taught them, and upon hearing these truths, that monk who had been negligent attained the fruit of Arahantship. After delivering this discourse, the Buddha made the connection, linking the past and present lives together, saying: "The king at that time was Ananda, the horseman was Shariputra, and the noble steed was I myself."
