> Chapter 15: Peace and Joy

> People harbor grudges and bind themselves in resentment, but I hold no such knots. Truly, I am at peace.

> When people have worries, I have none. Truly, I am at peace and at ease.

> People have desires. I have no desire. I am truly at peace.

> I have no afflictions. I have no worries. I feast on the bliss of the Dharma, like the gods in the Heaven of Radiant Light.

> The victor breeds resentment, the defeated dwell in sorrow. But the peaceful child of the Buddha, transcending both victory and defeat, abides in ease.

> No fire is greater than the fire of greed. No evil is greater than anger and hatred. No suffering is greater than that of the five aggregates. No peace or joy is greater than the calm of stillness.

> Hunger is the greatest sickness, and all conditioned things are profound suffering. The wise person, understanding this truth as it really is, should realize and awaken to Nirvana, for Nirvana is the highest bliss.

> Freedom from illness is the greatest gain, contentment is the greatest wealth, trust is the greatest kinship, and Nirvana is the greatest peace.

> Those who delight in the Dharma taste the peace of dwelling alone in quiet seclusion. Free from fear, they are released from all wrongdoing.

> To meet wise people is good. To live together with wise people brings lasting happiness. To avoid foolish people also brings lasting happiness.

> Living with fools brings long-lasting sorrow and suffering. To dwell with fools is to live in constant pain, like living with enemies. But to live with the wise is like living with your own family. For this reason, you should associate with the wise, the intelligent, the learned, the patient, those who practice moral discipline, the noble, and the pure. Such wise people are like the moon ruling over the stars.
