### 第三　刑害經

> Chapter 3: The Harmful Consequences

如是我聞。

> Thus have I heard.

一時，世尊在舍衛城，祇陀林，給孤獨長者園住。時諸小兒，在舍衛城與祗陀林之間，以杖擊蛇，爾時世尊，朝時，著衣持鉢，往舍衛城托鉢，世尊見諸小兒，在舍衛城與祇陀林之間，以杖擊蛇。

> At one time, the World-Honored One was residing in the garden of the wealthy elder Anathapindika, within the Jeta Grove near the city of Shravasti. At that time, some children were playing between Shravasti and the Jeta Grove, striking a snake with sticks. Seeing this, the World-Honored One, having dressed in the morning and taken up his alms bowl, was on his way to Shravasti to seek alms. He observed the children between the city and the grove, striking the snake with sticks.

爾時世尊，如是知已，而自說言。

> At that time, the World-Honored One, having understood thus, spoke these words himself.

為求自己安樂，而刑害亦在求安樂之眾生者。彼於未來世，不得安樂。

> Those who seek their own happiness by harming others who also seek happiness will find no happiness in the life to come.

為求自己安樂，而不刑害眾生之亦在求安樂者，彼於未來世，必得安樂。

> Those who seek their own happiness but do not harm other beings who also seek happiness will surely find happiness in the future.

刑害經終
