### 第八　獨居經

> Chapter 8: Solitary Dwelling

此是諦實，世尊如是語，此經是世尊證阿羅漢已，說。

> This is the truth, as the World-Honored One spoke it. This sutra was spoken by the World-Honored One after attaining arhatship.

如是我聞，諸比丘，汝等當以獨居為悅樂，悅樂獨居，心住於止，常住於禪，成就於觀，增長空處。

> Thus have I heard: "Monks, you should find joy in solitude, delight in being alone, dwell with a mind settled in tranquility, abide constantly in meditation, accomplish insight, and cultivate the state of emptiness."

諸丘丘，汝等當以獨居為悅樂，悅樂獨居，心住於止，常住於禪，成就於觀，增長空處。如是，則可期得二果，謂一是現法阿羅漢果，一是有取之不還果（有煩惱餘依）。

> Monks, you should find joy in solitude, delight in being alone, with your mind settled in tranquility. Abide constantly in meditation, develop insight, and cultivate the realization of emptiness. In this way, you can expect one of two fruits: either the attainment of Arahatship in this very life, or, if any clinging remains, the state of a non-returner.

世尊說是義已，於彼經中，世尊說如是偈。

> After the World-Honored One had explained this meaning, he spoke these verses in that sutra:

能令心寂， 有慧自護。 不見諸欲， 則見正法， 樂不放逸， 見放逸患，如是之人， 不退於道， 近於涅槃。

> A mind that is still, Guided by wisdom, guards itself. Not chasing desires, One sees the true Dharma. Delighting in diligence, Seeing the dangers of negligence— Such a person Does not fall from the path, And draws near to liberation.

世尊說如是義，如是我聞。

> Thus have I heard: The World-Honored One spoke these teachings.
