### 第五　世間經

> Chapter 5: The World

諸比丘，如是三種人，出現世間，則為利益諸極多人眾，安樂諸極多人眾，為普濟世間，為利益安樂福利諸人天眾，云何是三種人。

> Monks, when these three kinds of people appear in the world, they bring great benefit and happiness to many, bringing welfare to the world, and benefit and happiness to gods and humans alike. What are these three kinds of people?

諸比丘，如來出現世間，應供，正等覺，明行足，善逝，世間解，無上士，調御丈夫，天人師，佛陀，世尊。彼如來說法，初善，中善，後善，開闡梵行，文義具足，清淨圓滿。諸比丘，如是，第一種人，出現世間，則為利益極多人眾，為安樂極多人眾，為普濟世間，為利益安樂福利諸人天眾。

> Monks, when a Tathagata appears in the world—one who is worthy of offerings, fully enlightened, endowed with wisdom and conduct, well-gone, knower of the world, unexcelled, trainer of those to be tamed, teacher of gods and humans, the Buddha, the Blessed One—he teaches the Dharma, which is good in the beginning, good in the middle, and good in the end. He proclaims the holy life, complete in meaning and expression, perfectly pure and fulfilled. Monks, in this way, the first kind of person appears in the world, bringing benefit to many people, happiness to many people, compassion to the world, and welfare, benefit, and happiness to gods and humans alike.

復次，彼導師世尊之弟子，是漏盡阿羅漢，住盡梵行，所作已辦，捨諸重擔，自得義利，盡諸有結，正智解脫。彼聖弟子，有所說法，初中後善，文義具足，清淨圓滿，諸比丘，如是第二種人，出現世間，則為利益極多人眾，則為安樂極多人眾，為普濟世間，為利益安樂福利諸人天眾。

> Furthermore, the disciples of the World-Honored One, the Buddha, are fully awakened beings who have ended all defilements, lived the holy life to perfection, accomplished what needed to be done, laid down all burdens, attained their own true benefit, exhausted all ties to existence, and liberated themselves through right understanding. When these noble disciples teach the Dharma, their words are virtuous from beginning to end—wholesome in the start, middle, and conclusion—complete in meaning and expression, pure and flawless in their fullness. Monks, when such a second kind of person appears in the world, they bring great benefit to countless people, great happiness to countless people, serving as a refuge for the world, and bringing benefit, happiness, and well-being to gods and humans alike.

復次，彼導師世尊之弟子，在有學位，多聞妙法，戒行具足，彼聖弟子，有所說法，初中後善，文義具足，清淨圓滿。諸比丘，如是第三種人出現世間，則為利益極多人眾，則為安樂極多人眾，為普濟世間，為利益安樂福利諸人天眾。

> Next, the disciples of the World-Honored One, the Teacher, who are still in training, have heard much wonderful Dharma, and are complete in moral conduct. When these noble disciples teach the Dharma, their words are good in the beginning, middle, and end, complete in meaning and expression, pure and perfect. Monks, when such a third kind of person appears in the world, they benefit many people, bring happiness to many people, and serve as a great help to the world, bringing benefit, happiness, and welfare to gods and humans alike.

於此世間，第一種人，是聖導師，得最大德。彼師弟子，自調御已，又彼弟子，雖在有學，而已多聞，戒行具足。

彼三種人，於人天中，最為殊勝。彼三種人，放大光明，演說諸法，開湼槃門，救度人眾，出於煩惱。

有諸人眾，依彼導師，最勝說法，所示勝道，於如來教，住不放逸，於現生中，必盡苦際。

> All who follow that teacher, hearing the supreme teaching and treading the excellent path he shows, remain diligent in the Buddha's instructions—in this very life, they will surely reach the end of suffering.
