### 不受仙書

> Not Accepting Immortal Texts

唐法常。襄陽人。性剛敏。衲衣囊鉢畢志卯齋。貞元中自天台之梅山。梅山者梅福舊隱也。常寄居之。夢神人告曰。君非凡流。此石庫中有聖書。受之者為下界主。不然為帝王師。常曰。此非吾好。昔僧稠不顧仙經。其卷自亡。吾惟以涅槃為樂耳。神人嘆服。

> Tang Fachang was from Xiangyang. His nature was resolute and sharp. He wore patched robes, carried a begging bowl, and devoted himself to the morning vegetarian meal. During the Zhenyuan era, he traveled from Tiantai to Meishan. Meishan was the former hermitage of Mei Fu. Fachang stayed there. In a dream, a divine being told him, "You are no ordinary person. In this stone storehouse lies a sacred text. Whoever receives it will become ruler of the lower realm; otherwise, they will become teacher to an emperor." Fachang replied, "That is not what I desire. In the past, the monk Sengchou paid no heed to the immortal scriptures, and the scrolls vanished on their own. I find joy only in Nirvana." The divine being sighed in admiration.
