The Guang Hong Ming Collection, compiled by the eminent monk Daoxuan of the Tang Dynasty, was completed during the Xianqing reign of Emperor Gaozong. Comprising thirty volumes in total, it assembles defensive apologetics, treatises, correspondence, imperial edicts, and other documents from the Eastern Han through the early Tang period. Its contents encompass Buddhist doctrine, history, and debates with Confucian and Daoist thought. As a master of the Vinaya school, Daoxuan, through this systematic compilation of historical Buddhist texts, illuminates the development of Buddhism in China and its integration with indigenous culture. This work stands not only as essential material for the study of Chinese Buddhist history and intellectual history, but also as a model of Buddhist textual compilation from the Tang Dynasty.
