Chapter 3: Western Vajra Sharp Bodhisattva

Scripture: The honored Vajra Sharp Hero Bodhisattva, holding a vajra sword and radiating golden light, went with forty million Bodhisattvas to protect that country.

Explanation: The Vajra-Sharp mentioned here refers to the Bodhisattva Mañjuśrī as described in that scripture. Following the Wheel of Doctrine, he manifests a sublime and wondrous body, perfectly accomplished in true wisdom and attaining freedom. The vajra sword he holds symbolizes his capacity to cut through the congenital obstructions of both self and others. According to the Wheel of Command, he manifests as the wrathful Six-Foot Vajra (Ṣaḍpada), with six arms, seated upon a water buffalo, subduing all evil venomous dragons that bring fierce winds and storms to harm sentient beings, thereby taming them. His golden radiance signifies the ability to dispel such evil dragons. His retinue includes the Heavenly King Virūpākṣa of the West, along with countless dragons and Peṭa spirits. Together with forty million bodhisattvas, he protects the ruler’s kingdom.
