The fourth point discusses the function. This sutra's power and function lie in eradicating sins and dispelling doubts. Because beings are confused about the one true reality, they give rise to delusion, create karma, and consequently experience inferior karmic retribution. Due to this obstruction of sin, they mistakenly harbor doubts regarding this retribution and its causes. Because of these doubts, they are unable to rely on the two methods of contemplation to eliminate illusory sins. Now, for the sake of beings with dull faculties in this latter age, the sutra first reveals the three types of wheel signs to destroy the web of wrong views and doubts that entangle sentient beings, turning them toward the correct path and leading them to a place of safety and peace. It further reveals the methods of practice and repentance, enabling practitioners to seek and obtain pure wheel signs, which serve as the foundation for cultivating various meditative absorptions and wisdom. Subsequently, it extensively clarifies the one true reality to open up complete understanding. It correctly instructs on the two methods of contemplation to encourage complete practice. Opening understanding means all doubts are dispelled; encouraging practice means all sins are eradicated. Therefore, the three levels of patience can be attained, and the state of the four Buddhas can be achieved. Furthermore, it skillfully offers words of comfort, urging beings to abandon timidity and weakness. It aligns with true reality, avoiding contradictions and faults. It enables even the subtlest doubts to be utterly exhausted, making progress on the path attainable. This can be called the ultimate compassion and supreme skillful means. It rescues and delivers those drowning in the Dharma-Ending Age, enabling them to firmly establish pure faith in the Great Vehicle. This is the great power and function of this sutra.
