The *Dream Journey Collection* of Elder Hanshan is a compilation of works by the eminent Ming Dynasty monk Hanshan Deqing, edited and compiled by his attendant Fushan Rilu and his disciple Tong Jiong. Hanshan Deqing was one of the Four Great Masters of the late Ming period, who advocated the dual cultivation of Chan (Zen) and Pure Land, exerting a profound influence on the Sinicization of Buddhism. This collection includes his poetry, prose, Dharma discourses, letters, and other writings. Its contents encompass Chan thought, Pure Land practice, and Buddhist doctrine, demonstrating his wisdom in harmoniously integrating various schools. As an important Buddhist text of the Ming Dynasty, the *Dream Journey Collection* not only reflects the state of Buddhist development at that time but also provides invaluable material for later generations studying Ming Dynasty Buddhist thought, holding a significant position in Buddhist history.

憨山老人自贊

Elder Hanshan's Self-Praise

Majestic and imposing, clear and profound. He sets up no defenses, has no boundaries at all. His spirit covers heaven and earth; his eyes hold up the Milky Way. Though he has drifted into the realm of present affairs, he never leaves the far shore of Weiyin. Whether layperson or monk, a carrying pole never leaves his shoulder. If he is not a servant of the Buddhas and Patriarchs, then surely he is a peddler in the place of enlightenment. Had he not entered the great blazing furnace, who would know he is a man of iron? Only when Maitreya is born will this case finally be settled.
